Get Rid of Headaches With These 5 Amazing Foods

A headache can be one of the worst afflictions are our body. But when it strikes, most people follow the usual routine: turn off the lights, lie down, then pop out a painkiller pill. Most of the time, it though, it's the same result. It is usually only temporarily reduced (if not, it doesn't work at all) with the painkiller but comes back even worse. Below, I've listed 3 foods that have worked wonders for my headaches in the past. Eating these foods to get rid of headaches don't simply numb up the pain as painkillers do, but actually cuts to the root of the problem and eliminates the cause.

1. Baked potatoes

"This common dinner side can be a tremendous help for your aching head, especially if the cause is alcohol-related." says Erin Palinski, a registered dietician in private practice from New Jersey. Alcohol dehydrates the body, causing a loss in important electrocites such as potassium. Eating a potassium rich food, such as potatoes, can reverse the cause if the headache if the cause is alcohol. A baked potatoe can deliver up to an amazing 721 mg. of potassium.

2. Coffee

Yes, this is actually a headache fighting drink, but only in moderation. Alcohol can cause blood vessels in the brain to expand, causing or worsening a headache. The caffeine in coffee can quickly reduce the size of the blood vessels, allowing an easy blood flow to the brain. But don't take this to far. Caffeine is also a diuretic, which can lead to dehydration in excessive amounts.

3. Whole-Grain Toast

To little carbs can be a sure-fire way to get a headache. When you follow a low-carbohydrate diet, you begin to deplete glcogen stores, which is a main source of energy to the brain. Glcogen depletion can also cause dehydration by increasing fluid loss in the body. Dehydration is one of the main causes of headaches, and in such cases, carbohydrates can be just the cure for your headache. Other healthy sources of essential carbohydrates include yogurt, fruit, and oatmeal. Be sure to consume only healthy sources of carbs, as many carb-rich beverages and foods, such as soda, can only worsen your headache.

4. Watermelon

Dehydration is a major cause of headaches. A pill can only do so much for your headache with the cause is dehydration. What better cure could there be than a hydrating, electrocite-packed fruit? A water-rich food such as a watermelon contains essential minderals, such as magnesium, which is key to eliminating headaches. A nice, refreshing watermelon can also be a tasty to fighting a headache. Try adding a watermelon to your favorite smoothie, or simply eat it by itself. Other hydrating fruits and vegetables include: cucumbers, oranges, apples, berries, tomatoes, and pineapple.

5. Almonds

According many researchers, almonds dramatically reduce your headache by relaxing blood vessels. Almonds are rich in magnesium, which is one of the best minerals for fighting headaches. A diet rich in magnesium can be one of the best diets for preventing and eliminating headaches. A few other foods that are rich in magnesium include: avocados, bananas, cashews, dried apricots, brown rice, legumes, and seeds.

I hope you benefit from these headache eliminating foods the next time one strikes!

Vegan Berry Smoothie Recipe

The following recipe is one of my favorite vegan smoothies, and it's perfect if you are looking for easy vegetarian meals.  It has a minimum of ingredients, yet a whirlpool of flavor.  It's the perfect breakfast smoothie.  When you sleep, your body begins a 6-10 hour cleanse, cleaning your body of toxins, excess water, and cellular waste.  A smoothie with fruits and/or vegetables immediately hydrates the cells and delivers quick nutrients to the cells, wheres a more solid meal, such as toast, takes more time to digest and doesn't hydrate the cells, which is what we want after our 8-10 hour sleeping cleanse.  This smoothie is also the perfect recovery meal for athletes.  Simply add any protein powder to the smoothie and drink before and after your workout.
     Enjoy!
     Ingredients:
1 cup - Mixed Berries
2 Frozen Bananas
1 cup - Coconut Milk (or almond milk)
1 tbs. - Flaxseed (opt.)

Instuctions:
Simply put all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.  Makes 1-2 servings or  one giant smoothie.

How to Improve Eyesight Naturally by Practicing Correct Vision Habits

Can you improve your eyesight naturally? The answer is a definite yes. Anybody can improve their eyesight, whether it is: near-sightedness, far-sightedness, astigmatism, lazy eyes, cataracts etc. It doesn't matter! Contrary to conventional medical practice, nearly all errors of the function of the eye can be corrected by simply changing your vision habits. In one sense, correct vision habits are new to you in that you are discovering how the healthy eye functions naturally, but in another sense they aren't new to you because you actually had correct vision habits when you were an infant, and all the way up until the time your eyesight started to get worse.
So what are the correct vision habits? Simple. They are shifting, blinking, and central fixation. I will go into more detail about each correct vision habit.
Vision habit #1 is shifting.
The healthy eye is always moving easily and slowly from one small point to another. For example, when a person with clear, healthy eyesight looks at a tree, they look at all of the details of the tree, and do not try to see the whole tree at once. They look at the fine veins on the leaves, and then perhaps they look at a bird on the tree, then shift their gaze to the outline of the branches of the tree. They look at all the details on the tree slowly and relaxed. Shifting is very healthy for the eyes and produces very clear, relaxed vision.
Vision habit # 2 is blinking.
Blinking is an essential ingredient for producing and maintaining clear eyesight. A person with healthy eyes blinks approximately every few seconds or so. They blink frequently, quickly, and relaxed as though a butterfly were gently closing its wings. Notice that when you don't blink for longer than 10 seconds that eye strain and dry eyes occur noticeably. Then when you blink again, your eyes become more relaxed and well lubricated. Blink frequently for clear, relaxed vision.
Vision habit # 3 is central fixation.
When the healthy eye shifts from one small point to another, they are using central fixation. For example, when a person with healthy eyesight looks at a chair, they look at the legs of chair, then look at the seat of the chair, then shift their gaze to the back of the chair. Central fixation is to be practiced slowly, easily, and relaxed. When practiced correctly and automatically, central fixation produces clear, healthy eyesight.
When done correctly, all the correct vision habits are practiced all together at the same time. After a little bit of practice of using shifting, blinking, and central fixation, the eyes will return to normal, healthy function and will produce very clear, sharp vision.

If Refined Sugar is Bad For You, Why Do We Keep Eating It?

Yes, yes, we've all heard that sugar is bad for you.  It's easy to nod your head when you hear someone say "sugar is bad for your health".  It's just common knowledge.  But if nearly everyone knows that sugar is bad for you to some extent, than why does more than 75% percent of our population still eat their own body weight (or more) of pounds of sugar every year.  After all, if you asked every obese person you meet, or disease patient you meet, if sugar is bad, they will most likely say yes.  Incidentally, most of these people don't even understand the strong correlation between weight gain and sugar.

There are many different answers to this question because different people continue to eat sugar for different reasons, but I will try to nail down a couple of possibilities for why we continue to eat dangerous refined sugar when we know it is dangerous to eat.  One reason is that our standards of how bad refined sugar is, is often watered down.  Many people simple hear and believe that sugar is simply bad for your teeth, and then they end there as if that's all there is wrong with sugar.  And it is very true, sugar is very bad for your teeth, but that is only one dangerous effect of a whole host of dangerous effects.  Sugar doesn't simply rot your teeth:  it robs calcium from your bones (destroying your bones from the inside), prevents the body from absorbing the maximum amount of nutrients it can absorb from food, increases likelihood of birth defects, encourages premature aging, causes diseases.  I mean you name it!  Sugar destroys your health from the bottom up.

Another huge reason why refined sugar is massively epidemic in our country is that it is everywhere!  I probably don't even have to try to convince you that sugar is around virtually every corner on every street, because you observe it in everyday life.  Walk into a college and you'll see vending machines for soda and sugary snacks.  Take a walk around the city and a doughnut shop or fast food restaurant is nearly always within view.  Even in the rural area where I live, there's even soda vending machines at the boat rental places and gas stations.  Surely most people do want to eat healthier subconsciously, but it gets a little hard when everywhere you go, there's refined sugar near you as if its a mad stalker.  No wonder why people love sugar too much these days!

Those are some pretty straight forward facts about sugar.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that sugar is in fact very bad for your health, and that there is refined sugar on every block of the street.  So what can we do to stop this epidemic and create a nation of citizens with vibrant health, clear thinking, and abundant energy?  It all starts in the community.  In everyday conversations with friends, family, and neighbors, try to educate them in an friendly way about the dangerous effects of sugar.  Be a friend to them and encourage them to live a healthier lifestyle.  The United States is nothing more than a network of communities stretched from coast to coast.  If one person (or more) could start a health revolution in every community across the country, our country would experience a radical change in its health, and we will thrive as a nation with fewer diseases and fatalities due to a a poor diet and lifestyle.

Chia Seeds, The Superfood of Ancient America

You may or may not be familiar with chia seeds, but it is a tiny seed that grows in only the driest climates in the world, mainly the Southwestern U.S. and Australia, where its largest farm in the world is located.  If there is a Superman in the world of whole foods, it has to be chia seeds!  Why?  Let me give you a few just a few benefits of chia seeds...
Chia seeds contain the highest concentration of omega-3 fatty acids in the world, which is the most nutritious fat for our bodies.  You would have to two servings of salmon (the next highest concentration of omega-3's) just to get the same amount of omega-3 fats from 1 tbs. of chia seeds!  It undoubtedly makes the chia seed a "brain food".

Chia seeds are a dieters dream come true also.  With its high fiber content, you can eat a serving of chia seeds and feel full for hours.  Hunger is a main enemy of weight loss, and if you control it, you will experience successful weight loss in no time.  Don't reach for those dangerous weight loss pills that make you nervous and jittery all day.  Chia seeds is a much more effective alternative.

The amazing effectiveness of chia seeds even leaves its print on history.  Many Native American tribes would eat chia seeds before running for hundreds of miles at a time!  They would simply tie a pocket around their belt full of the seeds and eat them on the journey.  The Aztecs valued chia seeds so much that they would often use them as currency.  To this day, the Tarahumara Indians of northern Mexico continue running such long distances using this seed as a staple in their diet.

As far as the way you eat the seed, its really up to you.  One thing I love about chia seeds is that you can use them on anything.  I can be easily turned into "Chia jel" by adding it to water.  It can also be added to bread, smoothies, cereal etc.  Recipes with chia seeds are endless!  I've never been a big fan of the "Chia jel" as I don't like anything with a gooey texture, so my favorite way to eat chia seeds is eating them raw and dry, straight from the spoon.

There you have it!  I hope you've learned a few intriguing facts about these seeds in this article.  I have felt so amazing health-wise since I've started eating these seeds, and I highly recommend you give it a shot as well.  The chia seeds health benefits is truly amazing.  It is one of the greatest "superfoods" you can ever eat and it will work wonders to your health!
